Town and Gown 2026: Our Best Yet

On Sunday 10th May, 24 of our Abbey runners lined up for the Town and Gown 10K in Oxford. It’s one of the most popular local races on the calendar, and you can see why. Bands play at points around the course, supporters line the streets in their thousands, and if you’re lucky you’ll spot someone in fancy dress running along with you. This year that included a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and, brilliantly, a Caterpillar comprised of 4 runners – I wish I got a photo!

It’s the kind of race that reminds you why you run. The energy is electric from start to finish, and with so many friendly faces cheering you on, it’s hard not to run well.

And run well they did.

16 of our 24 runners recorded personal bests on the day. Our fastest finisher was Ylli, crossing the line in 35:57 🤯, followed closely by Seb in 36:23 and Luke in 39:37. An outstanding set of performances right across the board.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and an equally big thank you to the Abbey members who came out to support rather than race. You make a difference. After the race, runners and supporters alike headed to the pub for lunch and a well-earned drink to celebrate how the day went.

This is what the club is about. Turning up, doing your best, and celebrating together afterwards. If you want to be part of it next year, come and join us.

We meet every Monday at 7pm and Thursday at 6:30pm outside the Abbey Cinema on Abbey Close, Abingdon. Your first few runs are free.
